Hello to all. I own and play a Yamaha NU1 piano. In addition to the fact that it is suitable as I live in an apartment and I can play silently if need be, I can also MIDI it to my computer to record and, to transcribe to a music notation software for real time printing.

I am looking for the best software that will accomplish this for me. All I want is to connect my Piano via MIDI to my MAC and play through a software program that will take it down. Back in 2003, I used "Finale" and it did just that, without any problems.
I recently purchased "Finale Printmusic 2011" and it has really left much to be desired. I had to uninstall and reinstall the program for it to work. I had to play with the quantization in MIDI and it still won't play how I am playing. In the time I have spent attempting to get this to work, I could have written out my piece long hand a few times over.

Can any of you recommend a Music Notation Software that will simply print exactly what I play through my Piano via MIDI without headaches?

I would appreciate your suggestions and help.

I haven't done this in a long time.

Several years ago I used Anvil (I think) to do something similar. I had to work with quantize though, apparently I don't always play precisely in note values!

I played a musical pit gig where the MD rewrote the sheet music for legibility by playing into Cakewalk. I don't know the details, I've never used Cakewalk myself, but he did a good job with it.

Do a search on "Music Notation Software" and you will get many that will record notation as you play, some of them are free.

Problem is, what you play and what gets notated, will probably not be what you were expecting.

You will have to do much cleaning up, adjusting notes, etc...

Maybe I should add ... if you want to pluck out one note at a time, they will do it accurately.

Playing live, and having it notate is a different matter.

The one Im familiar with is called Sibelius. I see it in ads in BBC Music magazine. Top end stuff so no doubt pricey!

You could try Scorecleaner. It'll print what you play . . .

I can't thank you enough! This program works splendidly for me and does exactly as I want. Thanks so much. If you want to transcribe in actual time with complete ease, this is the program to have!
