Has anybody here ever find that after the warranty period expires, the customer find him / her self denied the ability to buy electronic components from the piano manufacturer? If so, I'd like to know which brand. This is something I think is important to know before buying any digital piano. I'd like to look ahead before I consider any more digital piano. And if you did buy it, how much did the main board or part cost? I've heard that the main board can be extremely expensive, close to a grand for some high end models.

Is there an area of the forum that details taking DP pianos apart?

As an end user, rather than an authorised repairer, I think you will struggle to buy parts directly from any of the main companies.

I have heard consistently that the major makers keep a supply of repair parts well beyond the initial warranty period. How long? I'm not sure.

Things that fail/break: keys, power supply, speakers, screens, buttons/knobs, jacks. These tend to be cheap and available with a little wait time. Expensive breaks are usually the result of power surge, impact, extremes of temp/humidity. In those cases, repairs usually exceed the value of the product. You can see how this plays out.

Hi Pianoworldanon,

For what it's worth, I was able to buy a keyboard spare parts (felt stoppers, contact rubber) for my Yamaha CLP from an authorized dealer. The piano is about 10 yrs beyond the warranty deadline.

As I have said earlier, digital pianos are not really user-serviceable. I don't know how easy or difficult it is to replace the mainboard but I reckon replacing the motherboard in a desktop computer is an easier task.
