Hey all,

do you know the book "Fundamentals of Piano Practice" from Chuan C. Changs? Is it a good idea to read it? Or is it a thing to nothing to speak of?

I have it but have spent no time with it. It has a lot of fans but seems often to be criticized by more serious classical pianists.

Suggest you do a search on this site for earlier comments.

I have it and it gives me migraines. It's so poorly organized I'm not able (or willing) to try and use it. I have hidden it in the piano bench under some other useless crappola I've collected. YMMV if you are more advanced than me, you can have mine if you want it. sleep

It is basically Whiteside. His kids played at a high level, and were taught by a Whiteside follower, so he tried to capture the high points of their schooling.

There are some gems contained, and there is enough hyperbole to put people off.

It's worth reading but maybe only once. I'd skip the tuning section; there are much better introductions.

There's a useful bibliography. It's good to go back to primary sources.

gotta go practice
