Here's a piano that has an apparently false label indicating that it is a "Steinway" The description says this. But what is it? It looks nice.

Some of the more knowledgeable guys might offer more, but this is what I see:

It looks like a 1911 Steinway (from the serial number) that was rebuilt by a company other than Steinway. At least, that is my understanding of what they wrote. So, it is a Steinway, but was rebuilt by some other company, probably using non-Steinway parts. Don't know if that means the piano is in bad shape or not.. if you're considering it, I would appreciate their candidness, but I would bring along a tech to check it out. Could be a gem. Could be a dud. All depends on when it was rebuilt, what they did, and how well they did it.

If it's a 1911 model, it's certainly more than 30 years old... "the seller has loved and enjoyed this piano for over 30 years"; to me, that statement infers the piano is 30 years old. Why not just say, it's a 1911 model that was rebuilt 30 years ago?

Also, in the video I wanted to hear that salesman sit down and play... not talk. smile

When it comes to buying a piano, any piano, it is always buyer beware.

I can't offer any info about this piano but they have retained the video and disclaimer at least. It will be interesting to see what it sells for. Current bid is $2500 with 8+ hours to go. =8^O

That's not a Steinway. No way. Look at the plate. There isn't a Steinway plate like that, besides, all Steinways I have seen have the Steinway name cast into the plate at the treble curve. This piano doesn't. It might be a nice piano, but it, IMHO, is no Steinway.

I agree with joe80. That isn't an S&S plate. Whatever it is, a decal on the fallboard does not make it a Steinway. Now I understand all of the disclaimers of the auction house. They seem to know that they are peddling a 'questionable' provenance.

Maybe you all are seeing something that I'm not seeing... the pictures I've seen do not show enough of the plate, particularly the curved area, to tell if it has the Steinway logo embossed in the plate or not.

What am I missing?

Never mind... it's in the video; I'm embarrassed. No, it is not a Steinway. Wow... once again, it is buyer beware.

Rick

It seems clear that it's not a Steinway, but it looks like a nice piano. Anyone able to tell what it >is< , not just what it is not?

Steinway doesn't make a 64" long piano? And the piano looks shorter than 60". But hey, ya can't go wrong with "Forever White Keys".

It sold for $3050.07 with the proviso that it be moved the next day.
