Not always -- in fact, usually not. The site is a little erratic about it (and unpredictable). But there's one thing about it that I think always holds: you can edit a post a lot longer than you can delete it. The time to delete usually runs out pretty soon.

I think if someone replies you can't delete and also after a day or two it won't let me delete it or edit it, it someone has replied - that my is recollection of past experience - but I could be very wrong, too!

Why delete the thread? It is always good to know if a problem is solved. But maybe, for the sake of archiving this thread and for the benefit of posterity, could you summarize the nature of the problem and tell us what was the solution? (I hope it was not solely about how to delete threads, as that problem seems unsolvable).
