I'm looking for suggestions for a virtuous piece sorta like an encore... I want something with huge technical prowess yet tremendous musical elements...
Thanks in advance!

Since you're not telling us much, we don't have much to go on. So, I'll give you this good middle-of-the-road surefire virtuoso piece with tremendous musical elements:

Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody #6

If that's no good, tell us, and then we can know what better thing to say. grin

A caveat about the piece Mark recommended: Be careful you don't break your wrists learning the ridiculous octave passages which carry on non-stop for the entire second half of the piece (Liszt loved octaves!). grin

(Especially the Presto at the end - that's a killer.)

My suggestion: his Feux Follets. It requires "huge technical prowess" but also has "tremendous musical elements" - I think. ha

Caveat regarding what Poly suggested: the piece is impossible. ha

How about Chopin 10/7? Or Rachmaninoff 23/9? ha

Heck, why not Saint Saen/Liszt/Horowitz "Danse Macabre"?

C'mon, let's be serious!
How about Alkan's Etude in G-sharp minor, Op. 39, No. 8....

it's half an hour long grin

I would play Liebestraum as opposed to Rhapsody # 6. I played #6 when I entered my freshman year in college. It was fun but the Bb oom pah oom pah section is a little cheesy.

check this out and you'll see what I mean:

This poster is supposedly also playing Rach 2, the Grieg concerto, Rachmaninov's Polichinelle Op 3 No 4, Horowitz's Stars and Stripes, Chopin's Etude 25/1, Prokofiev's 3rd sonata, and the Chopin Heroic Polonaise. Surely they wouldn't have trouble finding something, if they have that much experience?

Heck, play the whole Opus 39! grin

(It's just 3 1/2 hours of the most technically demanding music ever written, what's the problem?)

You need to tell us more or else we could say almost anything since thousands of things fit the bill.
And it might all mean nothing for you. smile

Well, it's got to be less then 3 1/2 minutes... and it really needs a lot that a non musical crowd would love... yet still be educating musically to them... IK not making much sense am i?

It's starting to remind me of how some people describe the perfect partner they're looking for. grin

Anyway now you're giving us more to go on.

Alkan Op 39! Alkan Op 39!

Oh wait, that's 3 1/2 hours. grin

I don't know, that's a huge restriction, maybe Liszt's Grand Galop Chromatique?

Try 4'33 by John Cage. It's short and incredibly technically challenging. Be careful not to break your fingers.

.....and without too much trouble it could be shortened to fit his limit!

And talk about bringing people to their feet: I got the most enthusiastic applause of anything I've ever played when I played this. No joke! (And it tells something of my talent!)

I've written a piece called 3'28"; maybe the OP would like to buy the score? It's under the time limit, and only costs $19,999.99!

The second copy will be ten times that, and the third ten times the second, so get it now!

grin
