Dear all, I need your opinions on this 2005 Yamaha GC1 piano. It is sold by Church. Their asking price is $5000. The price is so atrractive to me. But it is very out of tuned; one string is broken. Their tuner said he had replaced at least 3-4 strings in the past. The people from the church told me that the piano had been tuned almost every 6 months in the past.
but since it is stored in a big room and they only turned the AC on during the weekend, he piano got out of tuned quite often. It is too costy for them to maintain the piano, they switched to a digital one. And this one has not been tuned for about 8 months already. The piano looks great physically. I have no idea about others. The piano is for my daughter, she has learned piano for 3 years. Is this a very risky investment? I am willing to spent some money to fix all the problems. But kind of worry about the piano's future. will the string break easily? will the sound change a lot?

Thank you so much for all your help!

The way you void a manufacturer's warranty is by subjecting the piano to poor environment and then servicing them less than once per year.

The cost to make it perform correctly would greatly cut into the "deal" vs other private sales. If it has lingering issues related to the poor environment, the value would be even harder to recoup.

I consider it a fixer-upper for someone with a high level of knowledge and experience.

Yes.

From your post it doesn't sound like you have a high level of expertise with pianos. I would suggest you walk away.

I agree with PianoWorksATL.
Without being able to play before a purchase is a bad idea.
If serious about selling, the church should bring it up to at least playable condition. I wondered if that was a possibility, asking the church to fix it before selling.
