I'm fairly new to the piano and I have q beginner's question. When playing a song with two hands, if you are playing let's say a C chord, what method do you guys recommend. So far I came across two distinct ways

1) play the C chord with the right hand and play the bass notes with the left, either a C chord 1 octave lower, or 2 single C notes with left hand.

2) play 1 chord with both hands together (known as the Beethoven method) Ex. left hand plays C-E-G-C and right hand plays E-G-C. There is no space between the hands and basically the right hand plays a C chord 1st inversion.

I'd like to get your thoughts ...

There are many ways to play a C chord on the piano and your examples are good.
It will depend alot on what kind of music you play for what will be the best.
Do a search on piano chord voicing on Youtube for many videos that can help.
Good luck!

Washoe - IMHO Ahmediy is correct, there are many ways to voice chords. FWIW I m ostly use LH Root and 5th, RH first, second or third inversion (based on what sounds the best is easier for me to play). David Sprunger at Play Piano Today has a lesson series devoted to chord voicings.
Guitar since 1966. Piano (Kawai DP80) since 2011.
