He probably doesn't have a tiger mom making him do this.

Do you know yet what you will do? Did he tell you any of his goals or if he has any background in music otherwise?

In my 46 years of teaching, some of my most enjoyable students have been retirees who either want to keep their minds sharp by taking up something new, or are finally able to pursue a long-time dream. Years ago I taught a gentleman who had had a stroke, and his fingers wouldn't work well. His very wise doctor recommended piano lessons for therapy. A most rewarding (and challenging) experience. Your title says it all: It's never too late.

Sadly, it turns out that he lives 4,000km away from me, on the other side of Australia.

Shame, I would have loved the challenge.
I have offered Skype lessons, but not holding my breath.

He has a bet with fellow veterans, that he will be playing some tunes within six months :-)

If I ever reach his age, I want to keep his same interest and passion to learn new things.
