Hi All,

I recently purchased a used Yamaha YDP-213 digital piano for $500 on CL. Besides the following complaint, its in great condition. The thing I noticed is:

... a few of the keys (around 10 or 11) toward the upper register sound a little click-y or plasticky-y. One way to describe it is that whereas there sounds/feels like there is soft padding between all the other working keys, in these 10 or 11 it feels like the padding between the keys is not there as much, causing an ever so slight plasticky-y clicking feel/sound that although barely noticeable, is noticeable! smile Its more of a slight annoyance than anything else however if not too pricey I'd love to get it fixed.

So my question is... is this something that can be easily fixed and if so, how much would it cost to repair?

Thanks!!

On further research here at the forums, I notice people are talking about felt being misplaced in those areas/keys which have the clicky sound. Is this an easy fix, like just moving the felt back in place or something?

The likely cause is felt that has compressed or has flattened out. I think you can get replacement felt from Yahama. If they don't have anything, consider buying felt from a piano supply.

Thanks for that, is the replacement felt cheap? Also is it easy to install, something I can do myself, or something to be done by a repair shop?

You'll probably need to disassemble your piano to answer the question of easy replacement. As far as the felt itself, it should not cost a lot. If you buy felt from a piano supply, you will need to trim and cut it to size. You might need multiple pieces to get the right thickness.
