Just wanted to see if anyone knows how to check for the functionality of the pedals on a digital as my current CLP-990M has two non-functioning pedals:

1) Middle - sostenuto
2) Left- soft

The main sustain pedal is working correctly so I wonder as to why the other two are not?

Have already tried:

1) Factory reset
2) Changed all of the pedal functions to "On" and "Off" within "other settings" and "voice settings."

Extra note:

The seller indicated that the pedals were working prior to the piano being shipped so there could have been damage during shipping as it took 6 weeks in storage and transit.

Yes but AFAICT from the forum, you bought them all sight unseen!

If you are practical get a multimeter out and see if the switch, pot if there is one, is working. You can compare against the sustain pedal. After that check the connection, signal, resistance, whatever is reaching the circuit board.

It seems a bit odd that those two are not working. Any configurable options in the user manual?

I was thinking the same thing (why those two?) although I know nothing about how to go about checking the things you mentioned. I am now looking through the owner's manual as there isn't much I haven't already tried that doesn't seem to change anything.

You need to listen to pv88's demo playings. He can play! smile

pv88, the first thing I would do is locate where the pedal cable loom(s) connect at the pedal and into the circuit board. Maybe it has come loose in shipment. Check both ends if possible.

Looks like the piano is quite heavy (209 lbs., 7 oz.) as it has to be laid over on its back side to get at the pedal assembly.

Thanks Peter,

As that is what owning a piano is all about... to make music.

And, you are right that most folks only use the sustain pedal, not the other two.

Although i also nerver used the othe pedals (except to change the rotary effect on the blues organ :-)) it would still bother me when something is not working. Especially with pv88 history of faulty DPs ;-)

I played the piano and did piano exams all the way up to my diploma without ever using any other pedal but the sustain, because I only ever had uprights to practise on. And the uprights' 'soft' pedals just put a felt pad on all the strings, which turned the sound into muffled thuds - they were basically nothing more than 'practice pedals' - which render them unusable for normal playing. None of those uprights had more than two pedals.

Of course, since playing on grands and my DP, I use all three pedals regularly these days.

Update:

A new circuit board for the pedal assembly has been ordered as it will take about a week to 10 days to receive the part.
