A quotation from the article:

Quote
"Despite our idiosyncrasies in listening, the brain experiences music in a very consistent fashion across subjects," said Daniel Abrams, lead author and postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Seventeen participants who had little or no music training took part in this study which, like Salimpoor's, is small, but typical for an fMRI study.

So they wanted to study differences and similarities in how we perceive and experience music, but instead of choosing different types of listeners or even taking a random sample of people as test subjects, they chose people who had at best "little music training"? I'd say that's very poor science. It's like wanting to study the gamut of intelligence found in the human species, but choosing only MacDonalds burger flipping boys or something.
