Has anyone seen the movie 'Madame Sousatzka' played by Shirley MacLaine? It's on Netflix, which said Maclaine won a golden globe for her performance as Sousatzka, the piano teacher. Just wondering if it's any good before spending 2 hours and 11 minutes on it.

haven't seen it myself but it gets a respectable 6.5 on imdb.

A Ruth Prawer Jhabvala screenplay is a good sign, she did most of the writing for the Merchant-Ivory productions and some of my favourite films.

check out the individual reviews there for more detail...

I loved it. (Saw it years ago in the theater, when it came out.)

I read the reviews, which also led to a trailer, which was very entertaining.

I've seen it, it's very nice. Even if the boy actor doesn't actually know how to play the piano!

I agree. A bit maudlin in parts, but given the story line, that's to be expected. What's also to be expected is MacLaine's superb performance. I actually found her interactions with the quirky neighbors in her apartment building somewhat more interesting than the relationship with her student. But overall, it's a delightful movie, and definitely not a waste of time.
