I attended the Einaudi concert at the Dome in Brighton last night. Very nice venue that I had not visited before. Anyone else on here that was there?

The concert was a long way from the gentle, melodic, tones of his at home broadcast of Time Lapse, and instead was a powerful example of energetic ensemble playing with heavy rhythm and beat, augmented by nice lighting effects. Quite an experience. A good one. Einaudi did play a couple of solos in the second half, to remind us of his core virtuosity.

The programme stated he will be touring the UK again in the autumn, and that current UK concerts are for the most sold out.

I have to say I came away extremely impressed with the 'electric cello'. That instrument makes awesome sounds.

I just started learning my first Einaudi piece. I've been working up to this and I'm SO excited!!

It's the easiest one in my book - Fairytale. Is that his easiest of all, d'ya think?

I would love to hear him live.

Do you know if the program will be broadcast on the internet?

It will be added to BBC iPlayer (usually around an hour after the original program), not sure if that is available internationally or not ?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Einaudi. smile You realize that, like potato chips, you won't be able to stop at just one. wink

Farytale is easy, but I wouldn't say it was his easiest. That would probably be Corale or Limbo, imo.

BBC iplayer is not accessible outside of the UK. If you are desperate enough you can use a third party program - Expat Shield is one.......although you didn't hear that from me.....all right govner!

Surprisingly easy, barely an inconvenience.

Can you recommend any other pianists for those of us who are Einaudi fans?

I mean "if you liked this, you may also like that..."

I've also been listening to a bit of Kevin Kern, some Craig Armstrong, a little bit of David Lanz, Jim Brickman, etc. A little bit of Michael Nyman even.

Any other suggestions, folks?

The pianists that remind me most of Einaudi are Josh Winiberg, Giovanni Bomoll, Fabrizio Paterlini, and Stephan Moccio.

Here's an example from each...

I have a question for those of you with much better ears than I (= everybody). I am trying to work out by ear the coda that Einaudi plays on "Two Trees" in his "Live From Home" concert. This coda is not shown on the sheet music.

(Here's a link to the mp3 file of the piece that Carlos so thoughtfully uploaded for us: Live From Home concert )

I've worked out most of the coda, but I'm not sure about the very last measure or two: In the left hand, is he playing a G-middle C-E chord? And does the ascending series in the right hand start on F and end up on E?

I may try to add it to my recital piece and re-record if I can figure it out correctly. I think it's a very pretty way to end the piece. smile

Hi, Monica
I'm traveling so I can't help you right now. Try to search in the original video what you're looking for.
looking forward to listen your piece!

Monica K. and Giuseppe, thanks for the suggestions.

They were all good.

Many thanks guys.

Yes, there's something deeply satisfying about working on an Einaudi piece that I rarely get from other composers. smile I just started on "Discovery at Night" myself. The sheet music looked intimidating with all those sixteenth notes, but if I just try to make it sound like the album, it's not that hard.

it is very interesting to see how Einaudi works with the chords and how he combines the different notes. This is a detail that I greatly appreciate.
Simple, but brilliant.

I've been toying with the easier pieces. Hope to record Walk when my piano gets tuned this week. After that, Experience!

Okay, maybe not, but it's an interesting piece.
