I was reading the "RD-700NX Replacement This Year?" thread and I figured being more a Kawai fan that I would start an MP10 replacement thread wish list.

For starters, I would like to see the next MP10 with an RM3 Grand II or Grand feel keyboard with with triple sensor. Also, 256 polyphony and few more sounds such as MP6 (not necessary though), and maybe go on a diet and drop 5 lbs to the VPC1's 65 lbs.

Anything else on the wish list?

How about a sound board to set it on like the CA95. And drop another 10 pounds to put it under the VPC. Only takes carbon fiber. Cost is incidental.

Oh... they gotta include a Godzilla Metronome...then it will be really cool.
Just think of that tail wagging back and forth to the beat.

It would be quite odd if Kawai didn't update the MP10 with RM3II and a triple pedal, though to me it seems likely that few other things will change.

Since they opted not to put GF in the VPC1, I think there must have been what they feel is a good reason, so sadly I wouldn't expect it in the successor to the MP10 or any subsequent stage pianos.

They could surprise us, though.

Regardless of the keyboard action that is used, I expect there will be complaints about the weight.

If it is lightweight, I don't think we can consider it a replacement for the MP10. smile

Mp11 = vpc1 + controllerbox ( for knobs & sliders and expression pedaal input) + software of your choice.

Or

Mp11 = mp10 with rm3-II and Hi-XL sounds and 256 polyphony. Perhaps with organ tone wheel emulation as a bonus (makes it more complete as a stage).

Or

Kawai decides the Mp11 is not a viable product to bring to the market anymore and the mp10 is the last of its bread. Since the VPC is out, people who only used mp10 in studio or at home could crossgrade to a VPC setup. Leaving only a very very small market left of giggers that DO want to lug 30 kg stage pianos around (how many are there), which may be too small a group of potential customers. I think for most of the live setups a pumped up and upgraded MP7 would make more sense and would have a potentially much bigger market ahead.

Don't know. Probably we'll still see an MP10 and MP6 successor with upgrade keys and sound engine. What really would be a interesting is a master keyboard controller with RH-II keybed (pure controller / no engine: with reasonable price). Kawai is testing the water with the VPC as silent controller and they seem to fly off the shelves. I think a relatively lightweight RH-II controller would do the same...

I very much doubt there will ever be a MP11, because marketing wise, a product named "MP11" would appeal and hence sell certainly less than a MP12. But we're in 2013 already, so I'd bet that it would be for 2014, and with new label.

This year I think Kawai would be inspired to put all of its best sampling technology in an expander box, say the VPSe1, or the VPX1, so that you could play it with the VPC1. I doubt Kawai will do that however, because I think it would imply considerable improvements over the actual Kawai sounds in order to stand up proudly as a stand alone product...

Can already see the marketing campaign: let's take it to eleven !

(Or did Digidesign already launch such a campaign in the past...)
