Anyone know how to turn off the metronome click while recording
an audio file on CP5?

There seem to be two places where you can set the click on or off, but even with both these set to "off" when I start the
recording, the clicks start as well.

I happen to have my CP5 set up in my living room and I found this easily enough.

Press Utility and go to page 7. The parameter to toggle is Click. Just toggle On to Off and that's that. There's no need to save the setting as settings in Utility are saved as soon as you change them.

duh ... I initially wrote the wrong parameter. I'll blame it on the wine. smile

... and there's a second method to turn off the metronome. When you press Record you'll see four LEDs on the right that come on. They refer to four pages of recording options, page 3 clearly shows you the option you're looking for.

Now, I found these methods without looking through the owner's manual. I'm guessing if you had simply spent a little more time you would have stumbled upon one of these methods. smile

I went back and reread your post.

Do you mean to say that you've already done what I wrote ... and you still had the clicks?

I not only toggled Click from On to Off but recorded as well to make sure the settings stuck as it were.

Thanks for your several replies Dave.

Yes that is what I am saying.
Both on page 7 of the utilities and also
on page 3 when I press record I have click set to off
but as soon as I press ">" the clicks start.

Also I am finding, with the recording set to
start on any key press, that the first few seconds
of the performance are lost.

There have been OS updates for the CP5. You can download the latest from Yamaha's web site.

Here's a link to get you to the page ... link to downloads ...

I am already on version 1.20, which according to the UK website
is the latest version of the firmware.

Have you confirmed that on your CP5 when you switch off click
and start a recording you don't get the click?

Roger, last night when I first started looking around in the Utility menu, I first toggled RecCnt (page 7) to Off and that seemed to solve this issue. I then went back and realized that I had missed the Click On\Off parameter and I went back and edited my post.

Toggle RecCnt to Off (as well as Click) and press REC to prepare recording followed by SYNC START but look at the screen and don't start playing until you're in measure 1. There were be a two measure count off.

This should be what you're looking for.

I played around w the metronome last night - thought I could stop using my hand held metronome for my practicing and just use the internal one - am I being too picky to say I didn't like the sound of the metronome? LOL. I like a solid wooden sounding click, like on the old Franz metronome. Too many metronomes sound like they escaped from the ICU unit of a hospital.

I want to apologize to Roger for one comment I made earlier in this thread. I didn't fully read his initial post.

Thanks Dave for that last suggestion, which has fixed the
problem for me.

I had tried the RecCount setting before but for some
reason it didn't then sort the problem for me (perhaps
I had Click on).

Anyway I now have no clicks which is great.

The only other minor gripe I have is that I can't get it to
start the recording on the first key depression; it seems
only to be willing to start a countdown then.
I have a Yamaha P80 which works that way, but the P5 won't
do it.

Thanks for your help.

Hey, that's no problem at all.
You've been very helpful and fixed my problem, and I appreciate
that.
