I think people need as many digital pianos as they can afford! - or the ultimate DP that doesn't exist yet - a 48 weighted keys battery operated that you can take anywhere and play anytime.

As an "at home musician" it appears as if three flagship digitals is the limit:

1) Yamaha CLP-990M
2) Roland V-Piano
3) Kawai CA95

Can't buy anything else (only swap) since all available space is taken up.

My 4th digital is the Kawai EP3 which now sits out in the kitchen area.

The EP3 is a nice board but is not a flagship model.

If you're a gigging musician at a minimum you need 2 as equipment failures always, always, always happen at the worst times.

For a home musician you can get away with one.

In my case I use:

- 1 cabinet DP for daily practice at the hours I can't use my acoustic piano

- 1 portable DP for vacation. It's actually a Casio PX 135

I want to buy an even more portable DP for weekends or so but I still haven't decide which one (I'm thinking on Yamaha NP-11 or Roland RD-64, each one has it's pros and cons...).

Needs are very relative. Literally speaking, a pianist only needs 1 piano. But if we count secondary needs such as vacation, quiet practice and others, then my personal needs are 1 AP, 1 high quality DP, 1 portable DP for vacation and 1 small DP for short breaks (which I don't own yet).

I am dyslexic, have memory problems and so I have to have the complete post in front of me. It doesn't work for me because it is highlighted and hard for me to read and only a portion of the post is in view, so I would have to constantly scroll the post bit by bit.

If I change the question slightly from DP to digital keyboard instruments then three:

The Roland C-30 digital harpsichord
A three manual, two octaves of pedals, digital organ
Finally a digital piano.

What I actually have is a PX-330 with a Behringer MIDI keyboard above - that gives me native digital piano, and organ and harpischord via software.

Then you might want to expand this to five to have furniture versions of the organ and piano as well as 'portable' versions.

CP5, RD700NX, NS2, ES7, PX5S ... did I miss any wishlist slab hardware?

As it seems to play out right now that would be:

Fixed:
VPC1 (+ MacBook Pro) for serious at home practice.

Fixed and portable:
PX5s for fun, the controls and for 'take-away' (including MIDI pedal Controller solution)

And perhaps a 61 synth action with AT for the specific synth-line stuff.

That makes 2 1/2 keyboards + iPad , speakers , volume control and a MacBook. More than enough to me....although an Integra7 as bonus would be very welcome.
