Got a Yamaha 105B a few weeks ago as my first "proper" digital piano (I have an older Casio LK 270, as well). However, it just doesn't sound good! The sound seems muffled, as well as overly growly in the lower registers. My Casio (worth about a sixth as much as the Yamaha) has *better sound*! Much better.

I have the Yamaha on its yamaha-produced stand, and the sound is just as bad through headphones. Oddly enough, the pipe organ voice doesn't seem growly or muffled at all, but both grand piano voices do.

Am I doing something wrong? Am muchly sad and confused.

Hi Mjaum,

Had you tried a 105B before buying one (assuming that you bought it)?

If this is the case, it sounds like you got a defective unit, if not.. it sounds like you made an unfortunate blind buy frown

Ciao,
Paolo

Mjaum, can you upload an audio file of the sound? I am curious to hear what you are hearing.

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. Also if you had your Casio a while, maybe your ear has grown accustomed to that sound as a 'good' reference.

Unless it's a defective unit, and your headphones too are not so good, or maybe there are some tone settings you can change.

Let's hear what you hear, as scorpio says.

The P105 has a pretty powerful bottom end - you might need to adjust your playing accordingly.

I've found that the speakers, while not bad for cheap built-ins, sound a little "woolly" and boxy. Played through high quality monitors, the P105 sounds pretty darn good for an inexpensive unit.

I've had my P105 since January, also with the furniture stand, and would love to dump it. Muffled and growly are *perfect* words to describe the awful sound it makes set to either of the grand piano sounds. Doesn't matter if I use $20 headphones, $200 headphones, or even a $350 keyboard amp, it still sounds like a piece of junk.

It's not you, your playing, or a bad unit, it just sucks. Return it if you can. I couldn't since I bought it at an actual piano store, so I've listed it twice on Craigslist, once for $500 and the 2nd time for $450 with no luck.

On the other hand, it does anything but suck in this video (which is not a promo but by a member of this forum):

I can only record through Garage Band with my Mac, but I don't think it's the real sound.
