Okay, so I just bought a Roland Fantom X6 so I could start attempting to make music, and practice piano in my spare time... then I found out it doesn't have speakers. Now, I know this is probably common knowledge for most, and it wouldn't be such a problem if I was only using it for (attempting to) produce, but I also want to play it out loud. Are there any cheap speakers that would work good for this?

No.

Cheap and good do not usually go together.

I would suggest going for good stuff right out of the gate instead of trying cheap first and then selling them and trying a "little better" and then after a few years ending up with "good".

The problem is knowing what "good" is.

You will get plenty of advice here on which ones to buy so just take your time, listen, and then make a "good" choice.

The only ones I can recommend are the ones I currently use.

See below ...

"Good" Luck

Why not invest in quality headphones and then take your time to audition speakers.

Whatever you decide, be sure to know in advance the return policy of the music store.

For the price, you'll be able to get better quality sound from headphones than speakers at first. Buy a decent set of headphones and then shop around, listen, test out, speakers.

If you're in the US, you can call Sweetwater and get pretty good advice (and it's free) from their customer service department. I've had good luck with my Yamaha powered studio monitors.

Yes headphones are a good choice while you save up for either a keyboard amp or some monitor speakers. Rolands are more intended for stage or music production use, thus the absence of built in speakers. I have a pair of Samson HP10 headphones that work perfectly well, though you would get much better value by picking up some Sennheisers.

For monitor speakers when you are ready, you should have a budget of anywhere from $150 up. There are some nice affordable options out there for low budget musicians so take the time to demo what's available at a local music retailer.

I thoroughly enjoy the full sound and power of my Mackie MR5mk2's. You can usually find a pair for under $299 if you shop around a little or usual web coupon from Guitar Center.
