as I continue to search I run across other brands of pianos and am looking for feedback.

I am wanting to know if there are opinions on these two brands. Both are grands about 40 + years old.

Thanks

Wilf

I can't be much help, but I've heard of Vose & Sons... I've read they could be pretty good pianos.

I don't think I've heard of the Stegler brand, but that is not unusual... there were literally hundereds or perhaps thousands of different brand names during the peak-time of the piano industry.

Bottom line, after 40-50 years, what matters most is the condition of any brand piano. If you like the way it sounds and plays, that too is more important than brand name.

Good luck!

Rick

I don't know Stegler.

Vose and Sons from that era was - I think - owned by Aeolian American. I know the company was sold when the great depression hit. If it's old enough and is before the Aeolian American era some of those are very nice, excellent pianos. However it would likely require at least $10k to $20k in rebuilding for any piano this age (1920s or older) to realize it's potential.

For a piano over 40 years old the question "what condition" becomes more important than what's on the fallboard.
