Although still in a conceptual phase the Yamaha 'TransAcoustic Piano' looks like a promissing innovation (?): no need of amplifiers/speakers to render the digital sound but use of the soundboard instead as a transducer.

My friend at a dealership told me about that. Sounds very interesting. Could end up with the best of both worlds an acoustic piano and a digital combined using the soundboard as the speaker,

Hasn't Schimmel been doing this for over twenty years? For some reason this technology has yet to make it across the pond to the USA.

Saw and played it at NAMM this year. I think a few of the other forum members played it at that time also. An interesting experiment - my recollection is that you could have the acoustic piano or the digital side, with the sound emanating from the soundboard area, or you could have both sounds simultaneously. I think there was a practical limit as to how loud the transducer-driven side could play.
