Ragdoll, loved the Vaseline Machine Gun!

timmy, the only thing that I don't like about the the Rachmaninov is that I get depressed because I'm soooo far away from ever playing his music!

Thanks Wayne. It's amazing( and sometimes infuriating!), the lengths that city leaders go through when a large event comes to town.

I haven't seen Benny Hill in ages!

Here's a 90's flashback for me - some Tori Amos Bee-sides (or b-sides). The first was running through my head yesterday - it's such a sweet and comforting song! Hadn't heard it in a few years. The other two chased into my head soon after.

It's funny how times change. Back then, some these were limited editions only available on some singles, and hard to come by. Now, I can just pop in a search on YouTube and hear 'em all the time.

I miss you, '90's Tori!

This one is so wonderfully bass-y!

This is a cover of a Chas and Dave song:

AimeeO,

Perhaps the following would be considered a Tori Amos "Bee" side

(sorry, I should take the time to figure out you tube embedding)

We are posting often on Janine Jansen and Friends, but they truely play amazing performances, full of expressiveness. Here we have an excellent version for chamber ensemble on The Farewell, the last movement of The Song of the Earth.

Endless, endless... It's so moving.

Due to some of us are focusing on Grieg, we could draw a little smile with his music. Not everything has to be hard work with this composer wink

That was great, Recaredo! I was initially afraid when I saw flashmob, but I would be totally ok with that.

If we had a flashmob here, it would probably be some kind of rap or a second line, neither of which I hope ever happen in my vicinity hehehehe

My teacher is awesome - she made me a book of different eras of music for me to learn, so I can see/hear how it evolves. She put a lot of work in it and I really appreciate it!

Right now we are in the Renaissance era. Since I usually drag you all with me - we're going there now.

The first one is Toccata in a minor by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621).

Next up - Andrea Gabrieli's(1532/33-1585) Fantasia Allegra per Organo.

Finally, Capricio Sopra re fa mi sol by Jean (or Giovanni) de Macque (1552-1614) This one sounds like a pop song almost!

And if Griffin's lurking out there in his retirement/pre-retirement, this is for him. Or for anyone interested in Nathaniel Dett - if you recall, Griffin and I gave a presentation a while back.

Dett as a piano teacher:

Greetings everyone! I don't have much time right now. However, I just wanted to check in briefly before I head into the office. Next week is my final week before retirement begins! I'll probably be home taking lots of naps after that!!

It will still be a while before I'll be posting. I am still dropping by to lurk and listen to the wonderful music you've been posting. A special thanks to Aimee for the Nathaniel Dett posting. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of it this weekend. I really enjoyed working on our earlier presentation of some of his music! Thanks!

Well, I must be off to work. I'm not sure how soon it will be before doing more postings here. However, I'll definitely be back to celebrate the big retirement date! PJ, you may want to get prepared for me to post Kool & the Gang! I'm sure you'd be disappointed if I didn't laugh

Off to work I go. Have a great day everyone!

Thanks AimeeO,
Leo Kottke sure can spank that 12 string huh? I wish I had been able to find a clip with better sound but I was in a rush that day. There is one of a young girl on YouTube playing this in a music store that's a terrific one. wow

This same girl Macyn Taylor is a pretty good guitar player: Check her out

I was hesitant to post this music since is extremely sad, but when I found this fantastic performance I thought I should share it.

I hope you enjoy it too.

Hi Recaredo,
Indeed, she started playing at 6 and her dad's a Luthier I believe it's called. Anyways, he builds guitars so she's had a lot of exposure to music.

Congrats Grif!

I retired long before I stopped showing up at the office - but, I'm sure this doesn't describe your situation at all laugh

Thanks TJ!! Actually, I can relate to those feelings you described. Nothing can prepare you for how this transition will feel. Right now this retirement is turning me into a party animal. There will be two retirement parties for me next weekend.

It's a good thing I have this whole week to get rested before the partying begins! laugh

Griffin, I'm happy for you, now you deserve to enjoy your free time.

This weekend I've remembered the pop rock band of my city called 091. I know the drummer, as our mothers are big friends, although this band disolved a while ago. This was one of their most successful songs.

Here's a nice little retirement present for you Grif (the feminine side of Simon & Garfunkle!)- I know you're overdue for a "fix" smile :
