I am a night owl.

Family asleep but turned the volume down on my daughters key board and spent some time learning.

Sweet stuff. I would like to find something similar that hill help with the music theory and programming the brain, hands.

Just stating that étude is utter coolness.

I too have played my piano late into the night. Playing at 3:00am seems to have a certain charm all its own. smile

Of course, I can't play very well, but I do enjoy what little I can play.

As far as learning the keyboard, the consensus here on PW is to get a good teacher first and foremost. Otherwise, I'd suggest starting with learning the basic notes, scales and chord variations, along with proper finger and hand technique. This in itself will go a long way in helping to train the brain (left and right) and hands to work together and independently. I call it keyboard familiarization.

However, once again, me giving advice about learning to play the piano is like the blind leading the blind. smile

I agree .... it's all about chord patterns and scales that go along with the chords. Learn your chords (Harmony)first!

Rick, I couldn't do that until I moved all the way out into the country on a couple of acres (still haven't seen the neighbors yet after 2 years), and soundproofed all the bedrooms.

And I just LOVE IT!!!!!

My daughter gets the real teacher. I do her lessons also. so I can help her and be certain that she is practicing right.

YEs we make her go but she'll thank us. I had a chance to learn piano as a kid and passed it up .. then about 25 I wanted it but it was too late. No $ no time no piano.

Now at 39 I'm content to give it 40- min to an hour or so at night on a semi daily basis with no real end goal beyond reach a point of compotence that I can enjoy playing.

Some of the stuff by Adele seem manageable for the beginner.
