A trill requires some forearm rotation, right? So it's not only a test for technique, but an aid in learning it. I've seen some debate on this. I've seen - yes, definitely. And I've seen, only when the thumb is involved. For me, it seems to work best only for thumb trills.

I've seen it argued both ways too. But since you can't play a tremolo without rotation, I tend to think it's important for the trill too, but gets minimized to the point where it's hard to see.

I've seen it argued both ways too. But since you can't play a tremolo without rotation, I tend to think it's important for the trill too, but gets minimized to the point where it's hard to see. I agree, there has to be some of this movement in there, but you really don't see it unless doing a thumb trill.

Speaking of trills - there's this one, a notorious fragment by Chopin from his Majorcan nightmare that our own Dr Jeff Kallberg turned into a playable piece. There are several pdfs of the score out there. It's all left hand trills. Chopin's "Devil's Trill"

Yes I like playing Couperin and Rameau and they use lots of ornaments such as trills. For example here http://www.pianoworld.com/Uploads/files/moissoneurs.mp3that piece also has a few trills with the LH
