I was browsing Craigslist and came across this ad.

http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/msg/3811848754.html

Is there any relationship between this Cunningham and the ones being made now?

It looks kind of beat up.

The current Cunninghams are the reincarnation of a piano long out of production. This could very well be one of the originals.

I wonder if Rich and Tim have any of the originals? Here is the statement from the website:

"The New Cunningham Piano is a project that has been long in the making - longer than can be easily expressed in this brief description. Patrick J. Cunningham began a Philadelphia tradition in 1891 that still has lasting impressions on Philadelphia’s musical heritage today. Many Philadelphia musicians remember playing on the Cunningham piano in their parent’s homes, in their public schools, their churches and synagogues, and these experiences resonate in them when they visit or revisit our facilities today.

It has always been our dream to bring the Cunningham piano back to the marketplace. After all, it is a part of Philadelphia history."

Thank you Marty for quoting our website. The real key to the New Cunningham project, though, is the paragraph following what you quoted:

"But rather than simply reproducing history, today’s New Cunningham has taken on a whole new face. The driving force in this piano was to be relevant in today’s marketplace and to address a present need – to offer a premium instrument that gives an artistic performance without charging the same premium that so many other makers require."

Johnathan,

There IS a relationship, but these are not the same pianos. Today's Cunningham is a whole new design.

Rich,

Do you have any examples of original Cunninghams, restored or un, at the store for historical reference? When I was there I don't remember seeing one.

We currently have a 1905 Cunningham with a Celtic dragon carved into the rim, Marty. It is a very pretty piano!

I hope Rich posts photos of the Dragon piano. It was near the store entrance until a few months ago.

I didn't check to see if someone has posted pictures of the 1906 Cunningham Dragon, but it appears that the Dragon is ready now to breathe fire, and here is a link to some pictures:

I'm wondering who big it is. Are you there Rich?
