Look at all the enthusiastic comments. His video is #1 on the "subgroup" for music, which has 2.7 million subscribers and 2000 people actively browsing it - pretty good. It was ranked #26 for the entire site, which is how I came across it.

No wonder I had 85 emails from YouTube in my inbox this morning. smile

Thanks for the honorable mention, Allan. I never imagined in a million years that video would be as popular as it has been.

It just goes to show that you really don’t have to play very well for some people to like your music… perhaps they like my southern drawl? smile

I figure if my music videos put a smile on someone’s face and instill a glimmer of hope, joy and happiness in their heart, it was certainly worth the effort; even more so if it promotes an interest in music in general and the piano in particular.

I’ve gotten about 300 emails from YT so far today, and more coming. I guess fame does have its price. smile

Rickster,

I've come to the conclusion you're a humble guy! You never claimed you could boogie like that! Thanks for sharing. Your joy shines from the minute you sit down at the keys (I think that also explains the millions of hits). Thanks for starting my day off with a smile.....blob

I gotta admit though, the sound of the "stand-up bass" caused me to burst out laughing at the start of the boogie-woogie!

Rick - The video is an absolute joy and you, and it, deserve the popularity. (And we can all giggle at the sonority of the piano - Gunshots optional - Dance hall girls required)

That's great Rick!! Do you realize you're keeping the entire piano industry afloat? Does this make four for five pianos that you have now? Just for the record, that's not my tuning. The Today show will be calling any moment.

Thanks for the kind words, Sally!

At present, I have 4 acoustic pianos, (5 counting my digital but I’m not sure if that counts or not smile ). Maybe I shouldn’t mention this, but I sold the old Schiller in that video over a year ago, and I never tuned it, not once. I sold it to an elderly man and he was absolutely thrilled with it, saloon sound and all.

Of course, I still have an older upright in my garage… I can’t see myself without a saloon piano on the premises. smile

And, your tuning is still holding up well on my C7! I’ve never experienced a tuning quite that good and that precision; guess that is why they call it a concert tuning. You are good at your craft, Sally!

The emails from YT keep coming… roughly 600 or so just today. Thing is, until today, I’ve never heard of Reddit…

Rick

Holy cow. This is why I love the internet. Your video has been up for three years, and then someone sticks it on reddit, and it blows up, with no rhyme or reason. Well, except that you're really cool, but that's nothing new. Enjoy your newfound fame! smile

Thanks for the comments, All!

I honestly don’t know what all this means, but it is nice to think that a lot of people enjoyed the music video and got a smile or a laugh out of it… not sure what to think about being referred to as an old man so much, but hey, it’s true… time and age slips up on us before we know it. smile

Thing is, learning to play the piano makes me feel young. Nothing wrong with that! smile

I liked the comments from so many that watching the video made them want to learn to play the piano. That’s a good thing too…

Wooooooo Hooooooooo! Fantastic playing! Thank you so much for sharing! Seventy-Five dollars of fun for sure!

I would put this piano on a neighbor's wagon/buggy and drag it to our Sunday Church Social, play some old Saloon and Sunday tunes, and the crowd would be thoroughly entertained! The whole town may show up just for that :-).

Music is what you put into it and we can all recognize the passion when we hear it.

I remember seeing this one back when I first started looking into pianos, still love it! I think its a wonderful example of how much enjoyment can be had even with a beat old piano like this one. On a smiles/$ basis I'd say this might be one of the best pianos ever made smile

Rick, the joy you put into your playing, particularly on pianos many wouldn't touch with a 10' pole is truly inspiring!

Thanks,
Rob

Thanks for the comments, Rob, and All!

To tell you the truth, the sudden popularity of that video has surprised me… I’m flattered and honored to no end to think that so many folks enjoyed watching the video… of course, some have not and voted it down on Reddit, but such is life. Some of the lyrics in a new blues tune I wrote say “I learned a long time ago that everybody ain’t your friend and everything that glitters ain’t gold”. smile

There’s a lota truth in that statement… everybody ain’t gonna like you and everybody ain’t your friend, unfortunately. Reminds me of the old saying, “you can’t please all the people all the time”.

However, I’ve gotten hundreds of emails from all over the world with positive comments, (and some negative ones) and many say that watching the video makes them want to learn to play the piano… I see that as a good thing.

And, you are right… to many, that old piano is less than a piece of junk; but in coaxing a little music out of such an old, worn out relic makes others want to get a decent piano (or any piano) and learn to play it, well, that just makes my day! smile

Sorry, Devtron, no, I don't have the sheet music for those tunes I played in the video, but they should exist somewhere. smile The first tune was "Old Susanna" and the second was "She'll be coming around the mountain" and then some Jerry Lee Lewis style boogie-woogie.

I've actually gotten lots of emails asking about sheet music for those tunes... but when you play by ear there is no sheet music, (for better or worse). smile
