I'm arranging this for piano and I can't find any original scores by Kreisler for guidance.

Thanks.

I don't get your question at all...

why don't you arrange the first few bars of the main theme (AFTER the intro) and then check to see what you're getting on your metronome.

I'm in bed right now (extremely tired), but I'd say that this is a 3/4 and the dotted quarter is at around 48 or 52... but it's highly rubato (and that violin playing... Oh dear the vibrato!!!)

I have around 46 in 6/8 time with dotted quater getting the main beat. I think it is compound meter with two main beats and three subdivided 8th notes fitting into the dotted quater just going by how it sounds.

Best

I do think it's a compound meter, but it could be 6/4. Then you and Nikolas would both be "sort of right."

It's definitely in compound meter. I'd go with 3/4. I asked about the tempo because I wasn't sure if calling it "tempo rubato" was fitting. I figured maybe "andante" would work but I'm still not sure.

But 3/4 is not compound metre.

Compound meter is just divisible by three, so 6/8, 9/8, 12/8, and so on, for example. The top number in time signature has to be divisible by 3.

There are main beats and these are further subdivided into smaller pulses.

Tempo Rubato sounds good to me. It's all over the map tempo wise, frankly it's almost as crazy as a mazurka. As for the meter it's definitely 3 something (so you're all right), but I don't get a strong sense of a compound meter.

It's been more than two weeks since I heard the video, but I think that I mean that I found the vibrato overwhelming in general...

when I heard the piece it sounded that there was too much vibrato. That's all. I don't see the point in making this a big deal or anything...

Hi Joel,

I've been using this link to get accurate m.m markings for a large number of compositions:

http://www.vocalist.org.uk/beats_per_minute_reference_chart.html

It seems like the page needs to be refreshed everytime rather than clicking on reset (maybe just an issue with this computer).
