Hi all,

I've recently joined this forum, have been browsing through a lot of threads and found this forum very HELPFUL, thanks guys !

After months of contemplation, I've finally landed my decision on a Essex Baby Grand EGP-155, the dealer claims it is a "brand new" piano manufactured at late April this year (2013) and has just arrived at the showroom literally 2 weeks ago (as at Jun-27 2013).

I was given a serial number of this piano (engraved on the metal piece near the pin block) but nothing more than that re manufacturing date and other detail....found bit weird that an authorised Steinway dealer couldn't provide more than a string of number about the piano they sell?

Is there anyway I can verify the age of the piano from the serial number ? Any hint would be greatly appreciated !!

Serial Number: 1320100 (Essex EGP-155)

Many thanks in advance !

Hi there,

Bob Snyder answered this in your other post.
Keep in mind pianos aren't like loaves of bread- "freshest" isn't always preferable. Pianos need time to stabilize through playing, tuning on the showroom floor, and adjustments. If they're "straight from the box", they won't play to their full potential and run the highest likelihood of having "teething" problems.
I am unaware of any changes in this model in the past couple of years, so that shouldn't be an issue, either.

It is not uncommon for a new piano to sit in a showroom for a year or more before being sold. If this is a reputable dealer, and Steinway dealers generally are, don't worry about it.
