I'm interested in buying an upright or a spinet Wurlitzer with a serial# 847 982. This guy is asking $100 and says it's in fine condition and is tuned. Can somebody tell me some history on this piano? Like to know what the age is, where it was made, and a fair price range of this instrument.

1964 vintage. Made in USA either Dekalb, Ill. or Tonawanda, NY.
Values of used instruments are based on Brand, model, age, and most importantly condition. Without a technical survay it is impossible to say.
Wurlitzer spinets in top condition, of that vintage, would sell for about $1000 at West coast dealers. They frequently change hands private party to private party for $400-$500.
The guy who is selling it comments are worthless. Somebody that knows pianos should check it.

"WURLITZER CO., Est. 1856 by Franz Rudolph Wurlitzer in New York. In 1861 Wurlitzer built a factory in Cincinnati, OH., but did not build their first piano until 1880. The Wurlitzer history dates back to the early 17th century and Hans Andreas Wurlitzer, a famous expert, violin maker. By the 1900s Wurlitzer was building vertical pianos in the Rudolph Wurlitzer Mfg. Co. factory at North Tonawanda, N.Y., and grand pianos at the Wurlitzer Grand Piano Co. factory at De Kalb, Ill., Franz Rudolph Wurlitzer died in 1914. Offices once located at 105 W. Adams St., Chicago. Ill. All pianos were manufactured under the trade name of "Wurlitzer". The following names were controlled by Wurlitzer prior to 1937: Apollo, Julius Bauer & Co., Melville Clark, De Kalb, Farney, Kingston, Student Butterfly Clavichord, Kurtzmann, Merriam, Schaff Bros., Spinette Strad and Underwood. Wurlitzer bought the Chickering name in 1985. Also made the Wurlitzer Electronic Piano. In 1990 the Wurlitzer factory was located in Holly Springs, and Corinth, Miss. In 1995 Baldwin Piano & Organ Co. purchased Wurlitzer and Chickering. Baldwin had Wurlitzer grands built by Young Chang until about 1996 when production was moved to Samick. Gibson Guitars acquired the Wurlitzer name in 2001, when they purchased Baldwin Piano Co.

From : Pierce Piano Atlas

Also, according to the atlas Wurlitzer #847982 was manufactured in 1963.
