Hey -

I'm just curious if anyone has seen any used Bosendorfers around, or how you might go about looking for one. They seem pretty rare. I guess if you buy one of these, you tend to hang on to it.

Thanks.

I see them usually every week on CL. However, I live in LA and there's tons of pianos here.

Right now there's a #290 concert grand (9'6") in "mint" condition for $56K. Have your checkbook handy? I'll give you the number....lol. heck, a new one is what, $170K, so this is a bargain, right?

I never trust an ad that doesn't list the year and serial number. So sorry, it's not listed in this ad.....blob

A technician I know was selling a rebuilt one here last year, for a lower price than you'd expect. I was surprised how long it took him to sell it--maybe the Bösendorfer buyers were looking in a higher price range.

Cunningham Piano Company sometimes has some. If you are looking, you should check with Rich Galassini.

Thanks everyone. I guess there are a few floating around. I suppose if I looked nation-wide it would be easier to find one. I have been looking locally, and I haven't come across many at all, either at dealers or on craigslist. I'll have to check with Cunningham. Not sure I'm ready to jump, but maybe if the right one came along.

Here in the Philadelphia area, the rare used Bosies will sell quickly. Like within hours of being set up on a showroom floor. (Unless there is something wrong with it.)

The last time I was in the local Bosendorfer dealer, they had one used Bosie for sale. It was a smaller grand that was traded in for a larger model.

They aren't impossible to find but they are rare. In the UK they tend to be priced much lower than the equivalent used steinway.

In the UK, used Bosendofers are well, well worth looking into. But to get them to America, that's a different story!

A 5'10 or so Bosie was traded into my local Piano Distributors outlet about a year ago. I got to play it, it was a wonderful piano, but way above my price range. I was a bit surprised how quickly it sold; the guy that runs the place there told me there were two guys bidding on it, both from out of state. I think the the buyer that won out was in Michigan.

We do see a few used Bösendorfer pianos ranging tremendously in age and needs. We take great care in bringing them to showroom standards and use that time to put the word out. Usually, the instrument is sold before it ever hits the showroom floor.

Oddly enough, we had 2 model 200's show up last year within weeks of each other that sold this way, and then this June, we had 2 late model 200's show up at the same time that we are now preparing for sale.

Oh damn, didn't see the date. But hey, might still be available. It's not everyday that someone has $50 big ones for a piano. And hey, if he still has it he's probably really motivated by now.
