Make Music New York: 175 Keyboards on Cornelia Street
Make Music New York, the largest annual musical event in the city’s history, returns for a seventh year with hundreds of free, outdoor, public concerts all around the city on Friday, June 21, the first day of summer.

This year, MMNY will present a world premiere composition by pianist Jed Distler for 175 battery-powered Yamaha keyboards on Cornelia Street in the West Village. The performance will set a new Guinness Book record for the world’s largest keyboard ensemble. Following the performance, Yamaha will donate all of the keyboards to the NYC Department of Education.

The 30 minute piece will be performed twice, in the late morning and early afternoon, along with a run through earlier in the day. The music is extremely easy to perform and coordinate, and there are even parts for those without any keyboard skills (other than to put your hands on a keyboard, and push certain buttons to generate different sounds). More advanced players will be the leaders, and must come to a rehearsal the day before (in Greenwich Village, time TBD.)

Join us and make musical history! If you have questions, email pierre@makemusicny.org.

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the post.

Casio will also be at MMNY:

Harlem to the East Village, 2:00pm – 9:00pm

Sponsored by Casio Keyboards, the Privia Piano Bar starts in Harlem and makes its way down the island to the East Village, stopping at nine MMNY locations as it goes. At each stop, from the back of the pick-up truck, accomplished Piano Man Nate Buccieri plays live music on a keyboard to accompany singers on the sidewalk—that is, anyone and everyone who’s ready to belt out righteous strains of Beyoncé, old-school Michael Jackson, or whatever else strikes your fancy.

Check out our schedule of stops below and come ready to jam! Be warned, if you’re going to sing “Single Ladies,” we’re expecting you to do the dance, too.

2:00 PM: Brownstone Boutique, 24 East 125th St
2:45 PM: Whole Foods, 808 Columbus Ave
3:30 PM: La Boite en Bois Restaurant, 75 West 68th St
4:15 PM: Oasis Community Garden, 505 West 52nd St
5:00 PM: Desmond’s Steakhouse, 513 7th Ave at 38th St
6:15 PM: BreakThru Radio, 116 West 23rd St
7:00 PM: Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St
7:45 PM: Pera Soho Brasserie, 54 Thompson St
