It almost looks good value compared to the squares at 30k a pop further down the page.

I'd guess most who buy square pianos or super elaborate art case pianos are more interested in the furniture aspect or at least as interested in the furniture as in the qualities as an instrument. 30K for a square piano may not make much sense in terms of its qualities as an instrument but may well make sense for its qualities as furniture.

It probably sounds sorta, kinda, like an S&S-B. That particular shop is not known for the quality of their piano rebuilding skills. Cabinetry is a different story, however.

They sure promote the idea that a private party can make money from rebuilding their old piano and then selling it. That lets them off the hook for satisfying the purchaser of the rebuilding services.

Before anyone invests with them, I would ask for previous customers contact info who had a piano similar to verify they actually made money from the arrangement. I have done a few client owned spec rebuilds that I subsequently sold, and the Art case Steinways are most likely to be the profitable ones, but the turn rate can be very slow.

Well... no. That's not it's "worth"... that's the price the owners wish to get for it. Two different things.

It's just speculation and lots of people fall for it every day. The piano costs that much to restore and you will pay for it but how it is still going to net you pure profit as a buyer is a mystery. I don't list my Steinway grands because it generates insane phone calls from even crazier drooling brokers like the one that broke his leg last year jumping over our fence for a look in the warehouse window. Instead I get far more enjoyment on donating high dollar Steinways to the less fortunate and it drives the powers that be in Nashville nuts after all those folks should have 40 year old Wurlitzers instead or so they keep telling me.

I have an appraisal form for a generic JC Fischer upright framed on my wall that says it is worth 30K restored?? Where? and how would it possibly cost 30 K ? I think companies that offer outlandish appraisals should back up claims with stacks of cash before they put their seal on documents.

Pfthahahahahahaha oh wow. Is there a thread about that on here?

But yeah, you do see people every week listing ratchet pianos for $10K+ f because of reasons like "Website X said it's worth $XK restored, so it's a bargain!". Heck, a couple weeks ago, there was a local craigslist ad for a $10K spinet that Liberace "supposedly" played.
