I really enjoy the look and touch of these textured black keys in my Kawai RX-2H piano.

I'm just wondering what other pianos have textured black keys similar to these. I don't recall Yamaha pianos have them. I only played Steinway once over 10 years ago, so I can't remember them either.

I've seen some pianos with dull surfaced black keys (on some Bostons, for example). But they sure don't look as appealing as these textured ones.

The Kawai (black) keys seem to have more room between `em. Useful if ya have phat phingers . . . !

Peterws, now that you've mentioned it, it does has more room between the black keys. I always struggle a bit when playing my teacher's piano in the inner sections of the keyboard. He has an old grand piano with ivory keys. When humid, they become wet and sticky. They are nice to touch though...

That's why I bought mine, makes fingering between the ebony a possibility.

Did you actually measure the space? There is a topic here where people did.

As for the texture, my Yamaha black keys have a texture, yes.

Wouldn`t you think the inscrutable orientals would`ve grasped this? Honourable Japanese fingers are not as fat as honourable Caucasion ones . . .

Oh yes, peter. I pity you. You poor depraved soul. You need to climb out of the DXG dungeon and experience the euphoria of Kawai. The spaciousness, the texture, the sensuality of real piano playing. Come up to the sensual euphoria of Kawai. smile

I still love mine! The ivory touch has smoothed out a bit in 6 months of usage (not heavy), but is still nice. Just that surface texture is smoothed over, still feels good.

That is something I noticed about Roland. The ivory texture is just some sort of coating. It was visibly worn on every floor model I have seen. The Yamaha ivory texture seems to be moulded into the plastic itself.

Well, I kind of lost track of what forum I was in, so I'm not sure if we're talking about acoustic or digital pianos..

The texture may be smoothed now, but it's still matte and the feel is still there. It's not glossy so you can't notice it, I had to actually look out for it.

That's cool about the Yamaha keys. I don't think I could have got the same in the same price point of the Kawai, though.

I think the texturizing is a new thing. I've even noticed some of the low end Casio DPs doing it. It's a cool idea, especially when your hands are sweaty.

I'm a fan of Kawai. They fell out of popularity in the states for some reason, but I think they're starting to make a comeback. I'm seeing a few DPs, not so much the acoustics.

There are dealers in the UK who still will not stock them for historical reasons . . .

Normally the black keys are wood (ebony?) and the white ones these days are plastic. So this texture difference is normal? Or is this some extra texture on top of that?
