OP Miesco Junior Member M Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 2	I am a beginner Pianist (been playing for about 7 years) and I would like to know where to start learning Jazz. Any resources whether online or hard copy would be great. Also which are some good Jazz music to listen to? I know Thelonious Monk... but that is it. I'm not requesting just solo piano songs to listen to, but Jazz Piano+Jazz Singing at the same time. Any good females who play simple Jazz piano while they sing? Thanks!

No need to listen to just piano players, either, but as for piano players, here's a tiny list fo the biggest names: Bill Evans Horace Silver Red Garland (played with Miles Davis) Wynton Kelly Tommy Flanagan Chick Corea Herbie Hancock Keith Jarrett Art Tatum Count Basie McCoy Tyner A great combo of one person singing and playing is Shirley Horn. As for resources, I'd really recommend a teacher. My teacher uses the Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine. It's a great resource, but it's not really set up to be a course, but rather a reference guide as you work with a teacher.

Martinez) - Understanding and Implementing Harmony on the Piano vol 1. As for listening to jazz piano, I highly recommend Beegie Adair. You can find many of her albums on Amazon.
