hello , could someone tell me what to choose. my choice is between roland fp 4 or yamaha 105..i live in istanbul and this is my choice at the moment..im playing on stage in a free jaz band and the piano will get a good workout.

I`m insanely jealous, friend! I`d love to get back playing with others again. I would say your choices of keyboard are even and equal; the FP4 has other voices which may come in useful if your sax player goes down sick . . .but you might find it sawn in two when he gets back . . .!

Try them out first; the keybed is probably different.

The Roland FP-4 is double the price of the Yamaha P-105 here in the UK, so it would be unfair to do a comparative review. We bought a Yamaha P-105 because we wanted an inexpensive portable DP, we already own a Kawai CN33 console piano, and after much trialling the other DPs in the same price range, Korg, Casio, we settled for the P-105, however, had we wanted to spend a lot more money then our choice would have been different, I'd have gone with Kawai.

Seriously things in Turkey seem to be priced incredibly high.

Biker buddy I know there says motorbike tyres cost 3 times as much as in Europe, petrol is three times as expensive too!

thank you for the advice . so i guess the answer is the roland since its got more voices and is double the price in uk.but that maybe doesnt mean a thing. as for going over the border the keyboard prices here aint that bad.the roland is 2000 turkish lira which is roughly 1000 dollars.the yamaha is 17000 turkish lira. still more than in the us i guess.the only thing concerning me with the roland is that i read the touch might be too soft and the yamahas brighter sound cuts through the mix better at gigs .is this true . also i noticed the lights continually flash on the roland on the you tube examples.

The rotor blades spin at the same frames per second as the camera takes pictures. Therefore it looks as if they are not moving.

Undersampling occurs as well which makes wheels look like they are spinning backwards

An old style CRT television flashes extremely quickly but because human eyes work on persistence of vision, we don't see the flashing.

The FP4 has the old PHA alpha II keyboard which is not as good as the GHS on the Yamaha (in my opinion). If it was the FP50, which seems to have replaced the FP4, I'd say go with that, but the FP4 does not have the better Ivory G keyboard, or the Roland Super Natural Piano sound engine.

So, if you are going to need the 330 extra sounds + drum kits - many of which are very good indeed - then go for the Roland. But if it's piano and a few other keyboards that you will need, get the Yamaha 105. The main Yamaha piano sound is pretty bright & present, I think.

The onboard sounds on the Yamaha are: 2 x Grand Piano types, 4 x Electric Piano types, Jazz Organ, Rock Organ, Pipe Organ, Vibraphone, Harpsichord, Strings, Wood Bass, and Electric Bass

I haven't played the FP50, but my understanding is that the action is similar to the FP4F. I thought the FP4 felt better to play than the FP4F.
