Greetings,

I've recently discovered the Piano World Forum and have thoroughly enjoyed perusing through the Technician archives.

I was hoping that someone could help identify these hammers on my recently purchased used M & H BB. My understanding is that these hammers were installed at some point along the way. I'm considering replacement hammers and thought that it would be useful to know at least what I'm currently working with.

Thank you

S&S (german) 1960>1980 era, badly glued or re glued with CA glue "the stuff that makes you feel a real piano technician for a minimal investment".

Possibly the hammers where "refelted"

ugly gluing job, in any case

The hammers are may be in good condition, the gluing is awful, but, even refelting is not a bad thing in the heads are old.
(the wood molding is much rounded, as with some refelting jobs

The wood, shape and the underfelt make me say the origin. I do not remind NY Steinway using that wood, but I do not know them well enough, the underfelt color can only be Steinway (usually)

What would knowing who made those hammer tell you? Probably not very much that would impact the choice of a future replacement hammer.

Many North American hammer makers used a purple underfelt. Seeing that the piano is in Canada, the hammers could be from DM Best (Toronto).

I have a refelted set (Abel) that have exactly the same look (wood molding shaved similarly)

there they seem to be tailored US way (trapezoidal)
The purple underfelt is reserved and patent (?) protected here. Violet can be find, not purple (parme)
