Started playing piano about five months ago and am wondering if una corda and/or the sostenuto pedal are used in non-classical pieces? By non-classical I mean styles like, but not limited to, blues, jazz, pop, rock, C&W et.c.

I use the sostenuto in the intro to "Piano Man". And here is someone playing "Swanee" (I think) with sostenuto.

I do not think either are used much, but the sostenuto pedal is very adaptable to any music which requires clarity. Learning to use it is an aid to learning to use the damper pedal properly.
