Hello Everyone...i am pretty much a new user here.

I am beginner but I want a solid instrument to start practicing on. I don't want tons of distractions/settings i think it takes away from what you should be focusing on (at least in the beginning).

I have been reading the forum to get an idea that the p-120 and p-155 are good recommendations as decent beginning/intermediate level instruments.

With that being said, I know $999 for p-155 is a bit much for me to spend so I have been looking on Craigslist to see if I can spot a deal.

I came across two: Yamaha P-120 Keyboard needs repair - $400

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/msg/3967656208.html

I am not expert with electronics but if it is at least making sounds I guess the bulk of the system is in-place (?) but I also know $400 for a keyboard that doesn't play is way too much. What should I be offering for something like this?

Other one I have seen is P-155...i would think a good price would be $500. I believe $800 is a bit steep and only $200 away from getting it new!

I haven't been around these digital piano's that long to be able to judge fair price. Any feedback would be a great help!!

update:

Thank you again everyone who helped with this. I was able to get the P-155, stand, pedal, headphones, music holder (no stand0) for $650. I think it worked out nicely!

Avoid the first one. Haggle the P-155 if it's in prime working condition. Remember the stand is $120 extra new.

I agree with xorbe, a DP that needs repair seems too risky. A new P155 in a bundle (w/ stand, bench, dust cover etc) is $1150. Thus, $800 for the used one without the bench seems high. I would try and negotiate it down to around $600.

I agree. A broken low-end piano is worth next to nothing. Minimum cost of service (adjustment, no parts) will run $150 or more. Skip the P120.

Thank you all for the guidance...it does help a lot.

i've abandoned the fixer-upper p-120 and am trying to get in touch with the p-155 owner. I will update if anything happens from this inquiry.
