Especially the 168.

Thoughts?

Of course I'm tired, I'm old.

But I think I caught the fish I wanted...so...

The Samick/Seiler concept intrigues me. It somewhat goes back to the question we were kicking around about how good an OEM piano can be. It also speaks to whether one should travel to see a more obscure brand.

Therefore, how well does this oriental Seiler stack up to the "real" Seiler? Is the tone similar? Are there perceptible, but more importantly, performance affecting manufacturing flaws? Is one getting tremendous (note, I am a value guy) value for the money spent? Is this a piano, that with extensive prep - say, moreso than normally given to the average OEM piano - creates a much better piano than one would think at first blush?

If this piano is properly prepped, what piano(s) would you compare and compete it against? How do you size a customer for this piano?

If this piano is good, or if it is mediocre, is it representative of its entire line? Or are there hidden gems among the ED Seilers?

And what are your thoughts on this:

Would you like me to go into more detail? tiki

Seiler is getting a big push to become a full line. Have you played any of the ED-series yet?

No sir.

Should one drive several hours to do so? (See litany of questions above).

Hello Jolly,

I remember there was a post where Kurtmen, a long time Seiler dealer, gave more detailed opinions of this. We are a relatively new Seiler dealer and have handled only a few of the traditional German models to compare directly. Without a doubt, there is a perceivable difference in the refinement of tone and overall performance, but the value proposition is extremely high with the ED series. In the line, my favorite models are the ED186 and ED126. They also look great.

We recently had one of our longtime customers add an upright to her teaching studio. We gave her the option between the ED and SE series, and loaned her the ED while she waited for the familiar SE to arrive. She was so pleased with the ED that she almost cancelled on the SE. Since it was already in motion, we brought them both in and she ultimately chose the SE, but without the side-by-side comparison, she had no doubt the ED would serve her well.

Last Sunday, I attended a piano dedication service at a local church that purchased a Seiler ED186 from us in October of last year. John Innes, a wonderful pianist and organist who led music with Billy Graham Crusades organization for ~40 years played some of his favorite hymn arrangements. I know that discovering that instrument made a huge difference in that church's options and they are delighted.

I had fun attending and listening to John. smile

Thank you.

The part about the vertical is very interesting. I'm not in the market, not just yet, but it does give one something else to consider, because I certainly don't have a German piano pocketbook. The vertical you mentioned, is that the same one in your video clip?

Y'all have a nice line and I like the web presence. I wish more dealers would post more clips of their products.

We don't have videos of all of the models, but we made this video of the Seiler ED126 early last year. I need more practice recording uprights.

We rushed (not bad considering) to make this video just before the SE132 was delivered.

I hope to have some useful footage of John playing the grand at the piano dedication service, and certainly a video of the Seiler ED168 is in the works.
