Hello all, I tried to search for an answer before posting but found no help. I found a really good deal on a Charles Walter piano that is around 17 years old. It sounded good and the action was very pleasant to me. The owner says it holds tuning well. I gave her a deposit to hold it for me but I do have one concern. When you lift the lid there are a couple of splits down the center on the top. The cracks are not on the actual pin block but somewhere in the center. Is this just a simple re-bolt repair that a technician can do or am I look at something more serious. I am paying little enough that I can afford another $500 or so for tuning and repairs. I might also look into getting the hammers reshaped. Thanks for everyone who shares their knowledge on these forums.

The first thing you should do is spend $100 on a technician upfront to investigate that crack and the piano in general.

CW's are a solidly built piano built by a small company run a high character family.
