I was remembering when I first visited ABF, before a long haitus of 5 years.
There was a thread or several about "To Zanarkand" piano music from a video game called Final Fantasy.
There were a lot of 'how to's', and people on Youtube playing their versions, and some angry people who hated it and didn't like all the fuss about it.
I loved it and printed off a copy to learn to play it, but sadly it was way above my level at the time, but now I will attempt it as I have caught myself up and gone beyond. Well, after, during and inbetween theory and Alfred's.
I just wondered what particular piece, if any, people were obsessing about now? Also if anyone here remembers all the discussions about that piece, and if it still is relevant.

Does anyone remember the hype about this piece, or was it my perception only?

There's a Google Custom Search bar/feature at the top left of the page you could use to try and dig around some. The piece is widely popular so it likely wasn't your imagination.

Hi Bob, my question was really, is there a piece everyone is excited about now? At the time a few years ago it was Zanarkand that caused a lot of discussion and I remembered that some loved it, others were annoyed by it.
It is possible that now Einaudi has pieces that people see as having the song fever. I just wondered if people remembered the hype of Zanarkand and how so many people wanted to play it, if there was something today that causes the hype and excitement.

Don't want to offend anyone, but I cannot understand the past and ongoing fascination with the Yiruma piece The River Flows in You. I just don't get it...my teacher tried to give it to me a couple of weeks ago but I politely said no.

Of course when you think about it To Zanarkland & The River Flows in You are what you might consider rite of passage pieces for beginners. Nor can I blame anyone for attempting them especially if you are not the biggest fan of classical music. It is slim picking finding longer challenging pieces in the lower grade levels. Bit of a traditionalist myself, when I am ready it's going to be Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata.....very predictable I know.
