Despite there being 550 or whatever, I was just curious to see if there are a small number people actually like, or if it's pretty evenly distributed!
Of course, very few people have heard them all, such as myself, so I only know a small percentage; but I personally love K. 27, K. 141 (surprise!), and the Pastorale Sonata.

I happen to like the first one in D-minor, L. 422 (K. 141), as played by Andre Watts:

The fact that there are 550 is awesome. Obviously it would be very hard to get familiar with all of them, but think of how many gems there are, unseen by the mainstream classical world. There are so many of them to "make your own" so to speak.

K.417, d-minor fugue, starts like Palestrina, ends like Mozart on dope.

K25 in F#min, as played by Horowitz, is sublime.

It's even harder to pick just a few favorites, there are so many I really like. I would say I have heard most of them (not all played on the piano though) and what is amazing is that there are original ideas in almost every single one.

I must admit I don't know all of them. Most, yes, but not all.

Has anyone ever tried to perform all of the Scarlatti sonatas? That would be a killer project...
And not oh-so-pleasant on the listener.

Wait, I think you misunderstood me. I meant "know" as in am familiar with, not as in have learned.

I know a complete set has been recorded. I turned pages for Lee Luvisi doing a recital of (I think 14) Scarlatti sonatas; it was sublime and wonderful!

Assuming they last in average 2 min (without the repeats) that would make 19 hours, with the repeats it would be twice that...

Why not, I'd like to hear them all, but not on one sitting grin

Maybe a concert series. Once a month for a year. I would go hear that.

I also love K 141. OP I assume you have seen the Argerich recording (specifically the one on Youtube)?

I could list at least 20, but I'll just say one - K 531.

When I play this piece I go into a kind of trance that I can't explain, and it's the only piece that's ever had this effect on me.

I'm a Scarlatti fanatic. I like most of them (I haven't heard them all though). My favorites change everyday. Today my favorite might be this one :

But tomorrow, my favorite may be this this one :

You know what I mean ? There are so many of them.

Scott Ross has recorded a complete set on harpsichord. To my knowledge, no pianist has recorded a complete set yet.

I was afraid that no one would mention K.380 grin

I dug out a list of my favorite (or simply "popular") Scarlatti sonatas that I had made for my kid to listen and potentially play. He liked pretty much all of these, but he wants to play K380 first and foremost. Here is the list -

K.380
K.421
K.24
K.46
K.141
K.427
K.27
K.525
K.535
K.113
K.478
K.96
K.466
K.443
K.481
K.8
K.29

Me too! My favorite happens to be whichever one I happen to be working on at the moment. Since K197 hasn't been mentioned yet, I've posted a recording as I'm working on it right now.

I love this, thanks for posting. Had never head it before.

It's also a really nice sounding piano.
