OMG. I didn't even notice--I was just scouring posts on YouTube that I thought were great renditions! I've noted in the resources section. Great job, cebukid.

Sign me up for Solace for the time being. I want to run it by my teacher next week, but it looks doable!

That elephant could have been dangerous laugh Whack! Whack!

Hey, rnaple and AimeeO - whoo hoo! Great rags. This is shaping up.

Maybe we'll have enough participants to pool our money and hire an elephant. I saw Aida once with an elephant smile

I've kind of fallen in love with Solace. Not sure I can do it, but ... it's a challenge, right? Can I have it *provisionally*, and then tell you in a week or two whether or not I'll actually do it?

I know, being difficult again ...

I love the Maple Leaf, Entertainer, and Solace, but let's see who's comfortable with what, and I'll fill in a gap somewhere. I'd hate to take the Maple Leaf (et al) if someone else really wants to play it/them. smile

I've always wanted an excuse to learn to play the Maple leaf . I think I'm at home with the syncopation but I've no idea about the rest of it.
Would it be too much of a liberty to put it on hold for today so that I can at least look at the score later this afternoon?

edit: I see Saranoya's asking for a week. Can I do the same?

IMSLP also has Pleasant Moments - A Ragtime Waltz, which seems very accessible.

Here's the recording of it I liked: Joplin, Pleasant Moments

And here's the link to the score:

Pleasant Moments score

For anyone looking to get their feet wet - and it's very pretty.

EDIT: Whizbang already has that one, too. Sheesh, I need new glasses laugh

But I'll vouch for it being a very nice waltz.

- I've checked the score for Maple leaf. I'll commit to it now. I hadn't realised we were looking at next year for submission.

(still like to hear Derulux playing it!...)

No worries.. I can hold out for quite some time. As long as I have an hour or so at a keyboard, I should be able to brush up the rag of choice. It's all stuff I've played before. smile

But what if they're all taken? I know you've talked about playing rags before, we'll be missing out if you're not involved.

I love Solace, but I see two people have already called dibs! So, I will take the Pleasant Moments Waltz.

I may regret this, but I'm going to chose a hard one - this will be a challenge for me...

Can I have "Fig Leaf Rag - A High Class Rag"?

I would like to sign up for Weeping Willow - although I'm not sure I can manage. Otherwise, a simplified arrangement of Maple Leaf Rag.

Oh, AimeeO claimed Solace before me! Never mind, then. Will go hunting for a new candidate tonight.

PlayAgain already got Weeping Willow, so I've got you down for simplified Maple Leaf.

Oh okay, I didn't see that PlayAgain was somebody's nickname laugh

I have a simplified Maple Leaf Rag but it's really bad, I'll search for one that's not as stripped down as that.

I found a couple that I'd listed in the Resources post.

Here's the better of the two that I'd found. It omits the C section and simplifies the other sections.

Oh, it also moves the key signature from four flats into no sharps or flats, which is both a blessing and a curse.

- beware, bar 5 fails to show the Eb accidental. It could be littered with errors, I've no idea*.

Sensibly, they written it out in 4/4 so the 1/16 note becomes a 1/8. That alone would have made even the original arrangement 'easier' for beginners.

*edit: no, it's fine. That's the only one...I was being lazy.

I'll take the Gladiolus Rag if it hasn't yet been claimed.

This should be quite fun.

OK, I am already being difficult. May I change from Pleasant Moments to Chrysanthemun? I did not get a chance to listen to it until this evening and I really like it much better!
