I love the Maple Leaf, Entertainer, and Solace, but let's see who's comfortable with what, and I'll fill in a gap somewhere. I'd hate to take the Maple Leaf (et al) if someone else really wants to play it/them. smile

I've always wanted an excuse to learn to play the Maple leaf . I think I'm at home with the syncopation but I've no idea about the rest of it.
Would it be too much of a liberty to put it on hold for today so that I can at least look at the score later this afternoon?

(maybe it's been taken but I didn't spot it)

edit: I see Saranoya's asking for a week. Can I do the same?

No worries.. I can hold out for quite some time. As long as I have an hour or so at a keyboard, I should be able to brush up the rag of choice. It's all stuff I've played before. smile

But what if they're all taken? I know you've talked about playing rags before, we'll be missing out if you're not involved.

I love Solace, but I see two people have already called dibs! So, I will take the Pleasant Moments Waltz.

I have choices that are not on Whizbang's list. smile

I may regret this, but I'm going to chose a hard one - this will be a challenge for me...

Can I have "Fig Leaf Rag - A High Class Rag"?

I would like to sign up for Weeping Willow - although I'm not sure I can manage. Otherwise, a simplified arrangement of Maple Leaf Rag.

Oh, AimeeO claimed Solace before me! Never mind, then. Will go hunting for a new candidate tonight.

Gotcha! "Solace" is the piece that really got me into ragtime.

PlayAgain already got Weeping Willow, so I've got you down for simplified Maple Leaf.

(Accidentally hit 'reply' instead of 'edit'. I wondered where that change had gone!)

Oh okay, I didn't see that PlayAgain was somebody's nickname laugh

I have a simplified Maple Leaf Rag but it's really bad, I'll search for one that's not as stripped down as that.

I found a couple that I'd listed in the Resources post.

Here's the better of the two that I'd found. It omits the C section and simplifies the other sections.

Oh, it also moves the key signature from four flats into no sharps or flats, which is both a blessing and a curse.

- beware, bar 5 fails to show the Eb accidental. It could be littered with errors, I've no idea*.

Sensibly, they written it out in 4/4 so the 1/16 note becomes a 1/8. That alone would have made even the original arrangement 'easier' for beginners.

*edit: no, it's fine. That's the only one...I was being lazy.

I'll take the Gladiolus Rag if it hasn't yet been claimed.

This should be quite fun.

Gotcha! It's my teacher's favorite and I'm glad I don't have to try to perfect it in front of him now smile

OK, I am already being difficult. May I change from Pleasant Moments to Chrysanthemun? I did not get a chance to listen to it until this evening and I really like it much better!
