just getting into serious practicing again after an on/off hiatus of close to seven years. the goal over the next couple months is berg's op. 1, which is going to be quite a challenge. i hadn't really tackled anything of its magnitude before my lengthy break, but i'm absolutely in love with the piece and it's coming along quite well, albeit slowly. in the meantime, however, i'm filling my void of completion with a number of smaller works, one of which is this little prelude. i'm fairly happy with it at this point, but i'd love to hear some external thoughts and criticisms.

i recorded it on a steinway L in a small 12'x12' practice room so the audio quality isn't quite perfect, but i think it's fine given the acoustic environment. the setup (for the techies in the audience) was a spaced pair of STO-2's running through a sound devices USBPre, about 5' high and 3' to the right of the keys, angled towards the middle of the soundboard.

Nicely done, and enjoyable. Welcome to PW! grin

In your interpretation, you seem to be led by the mysterious quality of the melody and its Scriabinic harmonic changes. Here is something to consider: what if, now that you have explored the mysterious aspect of the prelude, you next explore the "dance" aspect of it? Something tells me it is there to be found, in the Allegretto three-quarter time pulse. I could be off base in my suggestion, but when I consider the score at my disposal, that's what I see, and, in my head, hear. smile

Thank you for the info about the piano and your recording set-up, too. And, welcome back to The Musical Endeavor after your hiatus! Everything has a season. Everything has a time. wink

I may not be fast,
but at least I'm slow.
