Last night I helped a friend select a gently used Boston upright (UP-118S PE) that was being sold by a private party. It's the model with rubber casters on the front. I told her I thought it would look sharp to replace the two on the front with brass casters like the next model up has.

(Here's a link to the page that shows the Boston models in question; they're the two on the bottom of the page: http://www.steinway.com/pianos/boston/upright/)

1) Does anyone have any suggestions on a source? I'm sure I could call up the Steinway dealer here, but I'm thinking there might be even a better (less expensive and more attractive) option.
2) Is the swap something I could do? Do I dare just lean the piano back against a wall to change out the casters?
3) Would you guess that I'd find Steinway/Boston has made it impossible to get the old ones off?

(My friend wanted me to help her choose between several pianos that she'd narrowed her choices down to, and this Boston was clearly the nicest of what she was considering.)

Hi Cristofori,

You might get the answers in the tuner/tech forum. It sure doesn't seem to be a major change at all, and those guys would know.

To get an even height, you might have to change all four.

Good Luck,

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.
