Maechre - Well Done
StarrKeys - You beat me to it!
InLanding - Classy as ever
Stumbler - An interesting arrangement. Never get's tired as a tune does it?
And thanks for the positive feedback, all.

Maechre - sight reading is an absolutly invaluable skill, sight read well and you can play (almost) anything straight off. I can do a lead sheet and chords but not a full piano score - keep at the reading and the improvisation, excellent.

Newman - singing , bass and that right hand , plus the righ amount of energy in the performance , great stuff.

Starr Keys - what can I say , you transcribe the music , write some great lyrics which tell a story based on one line of the title " Where did my love go" and then record it. Apart from being honored that you wanted to do that with my music I am amazed what you managed to create. I must admit I can't catch every word on the recording so if you could post the lyrics here that would be wonderful. All I can say is thank you - we wrote a song.

Thanks, Inlanding and Jazzpt. I really appreciate your support, but you are too kind. After having my friend James tell me it definitely sounded like "Broadway" to him and my singing teacher tell me we needed to work on my feeling more free (less constrained by technqiue). Pop singing, which is what I intended it to be, is more conversational. Doing that might help you understand the lyrics (but probably it's my New York accent that's throwing you smile ). In the meantime, here are the lyrics:

Where Did My Love Go

You were a dancer
Beauty and youth your mantra
I was a skylark
whose song you choreographed

Simple yet grace-felt
easy yet and fleet-stepped
Till the wind storm came
In the updraft, where did my love go?

Dance and desire charged my mornings
Dream flight and romance charmed your nights
Mystical longing
Earthborne passion,
Down the rabbit hole, falling
Tell me where did my love go

Ella Enchanted, Alice poisoned
Persephone haunted, and
Dorothy, by wizardry, swept away.

Storm-weathered rapture
Mystic illusion
Caught in a vortex
and falling further from my soul
Where, oh where, oh where did my love go? Where did it like go-oh-oh-oh...

Starr Keys - simply wonderfull and all from "where did my love go" - I didn't write it as Broadway but it always sounded like that to me too, anyway that's not a bad thing.

Anyway , congratulations you did a great job.

Interesting, you heard it that way. My teacher heard it as like a Carol King song and my husband heard it as like Coldplay (Viva la vida). Maybe if people hear so much in it, we should copyright it in case some young mega star, sick of singing 3-chord Rihanna songs, wanted to record it.

After I get a chance to work on it more with my teacher, I'd love to do a video for it with movie scenes from the stories of the characters I mention in the bridge. Of course, you'd have to write an intro for it, and do one of your Keith Jarrett style piano solos after I sing the first AABA round, to really sell it. smile

p.s. hope you caught my edit, it's "caught" not "trapped" in a vortex.

Since just about everything you do impresses me, your being impressed with me is cause for celebration. I was thinking of your videos and injection of your personality and emotions into the film scenes when I talked to Jazzpt about ideas for a video for this song. I just learned how to edit videos within a video (not just photos) and you were the one who inspired me to do it. Thank you. Now for that wine! smile

Newman, more great Beatles. Your arrangement really suits this piece.

Starr Keys and jazzpt, wow great collaboration. The lyrics and music really fit each other. I'm impressed.

Inlanding, Partly Cloudy. This really fits my mood and the weather today, gray and melancholy. Always love your work.

Starrkeys . . ."Where did it like go-oh-oh-oh..."

"I`ve lost my fella ella ella
No more kissing under my umbrella
Just because I can`t cook his paella . . ."

You`re definitely having too much fun!

Inlanding A very smooth and sophisticated wine bar sound . . .you could play that all night and everybody`d be happy knocking `em back . . . .as they do! What`s your piano?

Starr - I just heard your lyrics! It sounds great. Bit o` live music just before dinner (the sausages are cooking nicely). . . proper music makes a comeback!

Glad you like it but Starr Keys did all the work , all I did was post my tune , she transcribed it , wrote the poetic lyrics around my given title and performed it.
Now that is what I call talent.

Starr Keys - As one who was once driven by the exceptional composing talent of Jazztpt to attempt my own arrangement of one of his pieces, I can understand how you were driven to let the lyrics flow out of you for this number.

Super job, and I L..O..V..E the idea of online collaboration like this! I hope to see more of it

Thanks, Newman, Stumbler, peterws for listening to Partly Cloudy. Peterws, the electric keyboard is a Yamaha 150.

Starr~ I look forward to watching one of your video productions of jazzpt's with your lyrics. Mating lyrics to a melody must be quite fun for you. You have a way with words. That, combined with your wonderful voice is simply amazing.

Glen

Thank you, Stumbler, Peter, KenJazz, Inlander, and Jazzpt.

More than a feeling--impressing those who impress you!! I hope you realize when you say that I transcribed it, Russ, and that people know I used one software program to do that with your recording and another to slow it down. I'm no where close to playing as well as you--you've got 40 years on me--and my piano is probably the worst on the boards, so even if I could play as well as you, it would still sound like I couldn't.

I'm very grateful for the terrific support I continue to receive from all of you while I'm my cutting my teeth and riding around on my training wheels, both as a piano player and a vocalist. And I haven't written a song since I was 8, so you know I had to be very inspired by that little "tune" of yours.

Thanks, Glen, but it's up to Jazzpt too. When he's ready with an intro and solo, I'm ready to shout "lights, camera, action!" smile

I'll see what I can come up with re an intro - not sure how we will mix a solo in though without the right technology - unless I record the full track. I could do that using midi if you have something to play it through. Lets see if I can write a decent intro and take it from there.
I Love what you did with my tune, adding words gives it a whole different aspect.

And to Kenjazz, many thanks for the compliment it's much appreciated.

Don't worry, I've got the right technology (I used it to splice together the beginning of the radio recording with the middle and didn't it seem like they were arranged that way?)

If you like the way I sang your song in the thread, just write your intro and solo in that key at that tempo and I'll do the rest. You probably should repeat the AA for your solo and I should come in at the bridge but if you want to start at the bridge and play that and A after, I can come in for the finish at the second A. However you hear it is fine. You're the composer (and a damn good one at that) smile
