To anyone out there who might be able to help.

I need a comparison of a Yamaha b3 SG2 silent upright with a Kawai K3 upright on ONE dimension only:

How do these two upright pianos compare on the basis of a pure acoustic piano (e.g., tone, action, and any other properties that go with an acoustic upright)? Disregard all the digital capabilities of the b3.

Also, if anyone has a current street price of a b3, that information will be helpful to.

Thanking you in advance.

The price for Yamaha B3 SG2 was 7750 USD (Warszawa, Poland). I did play it for a while - the action was precise, well regulated, however I did not find the sound appealing. I haven't got to play Kawai K3, I tried K2 but it was much out of tune and I did not like it.

I am not a professional player (not much experienced in APs either) so it is difficult for me to detail my feelings in more sophisticated way.

The Yamaha b3 model has been around for about 10 minutes. You will have a difficult time finding well formed opinions of this instrument or when making comparisons. Your search seems to be expanding in all different directions. For street price on brand new models, you can start with the guidance of piano buyer. Romek was kind enough to respond, but the variance in Warsaw vs US is likely even bigger than the variance around the country.

When it comes to comparing similarly sized and similarly priced Yamaha and Kawai uprights, I think that most people would agree that in terms of quality/value for money they are pretty equally matched. Which one to buy should depend entirely on personal preference for the tone/touch of one over the other.

I compared these two models a few years ago (just the acoustic versions without the digital systems installed.) I ended up buying a 7 year old used Seiler instead, but it was just pure good luck that it was on the market when I happened to be looking. Otherwise I would have gone for the Kawai based on my personal opinion that I liked its tone better.

Let your own fingers/ears be your guide.
