Any of you good folk knowledgeable on the replacement of the single,iron-wheel castors on a Yamaha upright with double,rubber-wheeled castors?
The recess that the current castor plate sits in is 2" wide.
Any tips appreciated,

There are double rubber wheel casters available. Without knowing what is on the piano, I cannot recommend an exact replacement, but we have ways of making different casters fit.

Hi - I'm not sure what the model U30A is, but I've personally installed a set of dual-wheel rubber casters on a U3 upright with no problem. I order #592 casters from Schaff and install them on pretty much every upright that comes into the shop with steel wheels. They come with the matching sockets. Often you have to redrill the holes for the socket screws, and once in a while you need to ream out the center hole a bit, but usually they go in easily. You do, of course, have to tip the piano on its back. Chuck Behm

Yamaha casters with plates are cheaply made an notorious for breaking in institutional settings. You should install a conventional modern caster with a stem and ball bearings.
