I have been given a homework assignment for this week (from piano teacher) to do an analysis of a piece I'm learning (Chopin Prelude 28/20) and I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of good, free, theory resources that can help me analyze the piece? I'm fortunate that it's a chordal piece, but theory is a brave new world, sadly.

Start with the key signature, and it may start and end in that key, so there are a couple of chords you can mark. Then look for a cadence at the end, say going from V to I. Then just fill in the stuff in the middle. Arrange the notes sounding simultaneously in ascending thirds, ignoring the octave, to help recognize the chords.
